Grupo Fantasma in studio/Ocote/Etc November 21, 2011 Adrian

Grupo Fantasma has returned to the studio after 2 years since recording our last record El Existential. The band has since recorded sessions for Daniel Johnston, Earth, Wind and Fire and Chicago but our new music has gone undocumented. We recently cut 4 new tunes at Public Hi-FI to see if we still had it in us. I think we do. Stay tuned for more info….we’re in no rush though.

Ocote Soul Sounds has reached the goal set on Kickstarter. Big thanks to everyone who contributed in any fashion. We’ll see you out on tour this December!

In other news, recently had Tita Lima at LOS working on new Echocentrics material, Funk Ark’s record is officially turned in and on its way to manufacturing, Natalia Clavier’s is getting CLOSE and we’re still trucking away with the Lost Counts.

Echocentrics on Daytrotter/Echoland EP November 1, 2011 Adrian

A few Echocentrics news items:

First, a new EP coming November 2011 called ECHOLAND, it’s an Echocentrics style tribute to Timbaland. Yep.

Second, back in May we taped a session for Daytrotter at Big Orange Studios in ATX. Four songs – Esclavo Y Amo, Mundo Pequeno, Jardim and It’s Not Too Late, came out lovely….download it here! I guess this dude in the drawing with the hairpiece/turban? is supposed to represent me.

Ocote Soul Sounds KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN! October 28, 2011 Adrian

Ocote Soul Sounds is bringing the full band on the road to the West Coast this fall and we need to raise some extra funds to make it happen and keep up the momentum for future touring. Please check the video below and support us with a pledge on Kickstarter.com. The campaign is 30 days long. There is a variety of music, pins, t-shirts, music lessons, and a private concert for various levels of support. Your pledge will go through once we hit our fundraising mark. Thanks in advance!

As of this post, were ALMOST 1/4 of the way to our goal but there’s only 22 days left…so I’m kinda biting my nails here….please help however you can!!

Natalia Clavier/Riders Against the Storm/Brownout October 23, 2011 Adrian

Recently had Natalia Clavier down in ATX working on her second album as well as some new Echocentrics material. Did a few days at LOS and a few days at Public Hi-Fi with Brad Bell and Jim Eno. Nat Nutty herself breathed new life into the mics as per usual, they never knew what hit em. Getting really close to putting the finishing touches on her new album and starting to feel the momentum to get a new Echocentrics record going. Tita Lima comes up from Brazil in November to keep that international psych-soul fire on, stay tuned for more updates.

My good friend Will Bridges has been working on some music with the ultra talented J Bro and Tiger of Riders Against the Storm (RAS) and brought them by LOS for an afternoon session. Hip Hop is one of my first passions and one I rarely get to visit with anymore. RAS and I have close mutual friends so they’ve been on my radar for a minute and they brought some serious heat. It’s also rare I get to mess with an MPC anymore so this was a win win. Looking forward to working with them more in the future. Voodoo rock, indeed.

Lastly, we recently turned in our third Brownout album for mastering with my man Erik Wofford at Cacophony Recoders. The results are stellar and it’ll be out early 2012 on Nat Geo Records.

ONE MORE THING, check out my new tumblr site…micro-blogging fits into my work schedule a little easier so check it when you get a sec for small LOS update nuggets.

Cookin’ with The Lost Counts October 7, 2011 Adrian

Just finished a two day session with Austin’s The Lost Counts….great soul/jazz organ trio. Fun shit, great guys, two days, eleven songs.

Trans Pecos Music Fest October 7, 2011 Adrian

Just returned from an amazing weekend getaway to West Texas for El Cosmico‘s Trans Pecos Music Fest. The wife and I slipped away and I managed to leave all instruments behind and just…relax. Great Austin musicians and friends out there, good times, good music. Saw a once in a lifetime show, Robert Plant onstage to about 300 people? Managed to check out Marfa Recording Co. for some possible future sessions up there. Ate some great food, checked out a ghost town and capped off a perfect weekend in the desert with ATX’s own Black Angels killin it. Now ready to get back to work….mixing new Brownout, Funk Ark, Natalia Clavier The Lost Counts (post about that session up soon), and upcoming Echocentrics EP.

Also check out my man Martin Perna’s (Ocote Soul Sounds/Antibalas) site. He recently participated in Questlove’s Afropicks concert in France along with many other incredible musicians, including Tony Allen, David Murray, Amp Fiddler and more. Cool pics from the concert up here

Funk Ark sessions/Echocentrics/Lost Counts August 18, 2011 Adrian

Just wrapped up a 3 day marathon at Big Orange with DC’s Funk Ark. Sam Patlove aka Sammy P aka Holes held down the engineering for a new record of theirs which I’m producing. 12 tracks in 3 days….old school style. These dudes just came off tour and are nails tight, we hardly did more than 2-3 takes on anything. Great band and great guys, we had a really good time and the finished product will make you lose your balance, there’s some tough shit for sure. Stay tuned for more info, I believe the record will be out early 2012.

I have officially begun writing a new Echocentrics album…starting to flood Tita and Nat’s inboxes with demos and we’ll start cutting ideas very soon (like this week). In the meantime, I’m working on an instrumental Echo EP to drop this fall. It will be the first in a series of tributes I’ll be doing, I’ll reveal the first one pretty soon, who knows it might be ready by next update at this rate.

September has me producing an EP for Memphis soul-jazz organ trio The Lost Counts at Jim Eno’s Public Hi-Fi studio, excited about this for sure.

Tryna stay busy as usual, might even fuck around and make some hip hop again for old time’s sake. I’m not the biggest fan of the “gimmick” mash-ups or whatever but did recently get inspired by Max Tannone’s “Ghostfunk” project. Check it out if you haven’t.

On the road… August 2, 2011 Adrian

with Grupo Fantasma

Natalia Clavier/Funk Ark/Gear Wire July 25, 2011 Adrian

Lots to report around here… just finished the first round of 8 songs for Argentinian/Brooklynite songstress Natalia Clavier‘s new album which I’m producing. The songs are coming out beautiful and reflect all of her influences nicely. The music was performed and recorded here at LOS by myself and the usual suspects (John Speice on drums) and features some “remote” contributions from LOS mainstay Will Rast from Washington, DC (more on him later), Nat’s brother Pablo Anglade from Buenos Aires, Argentina, her husband Fede Aubele from their Brooklyn home, and also from the BK, Victor Axelrod aka Ticklah (Antibalas, Easy Star, etc). We should be wrapping up after some touring commitments she has to Thievery Corporation later this fall, stay tuned!

Speaking of touring, getting ready to hit the road for a couple of weeks with Grupo Fantasma. We’ll be spending some time in France and then opening for the inimitable Gogol Bordello in Amsterdam and Germany!

Immediately upon return, I’ll be producing a new record for DC’s The Funk Ark (featuring frequent collaborator Will Rast). It’ll be marathon sessions with engineering help from my man Sam Patlove and my first time working at EAR studios (CORRECTION: We’ll now be at Big Orange.) Their new song demos are killer and they’re a great live band, few takes and few overdubs should do the job, we’ll be hitting that tape hard. I’ll be posting pics and such mid-August.

For all you gear nerds, check out my “review” of Neve’s True Tape 5042 Portico for Gear Wire magazine. Rupert Neve’s company (based in Wimberly, TX!) has been very supportive to me and great to work with. *Yes, that is a Tascam 4 track in the above pics, lo-fi to hi-fi at LOS, whatever works and whatever sounds good, no snobbery here*

Baseball Tonight Theme song July 11, 2011 Adrian

Grupo Fantasma’s version (recorded and mixed at LOS!) entitled “Beisbol Tonigh” has started to air on ESPN this week and will continue through the season. Tune in to ESPN’s baseball coverage to see if you can catch it…stream an unmastered version here.
