Cut a song with Austinite turned Brooklynite Suzanna Choffel during one of her recent visits back home. One day, one song, really one half day if you want to get technical, she’s the real deal. Beautiful tune, I’ve snuck it into some DJ sets (without her permission) and it prompts many visits to the decks asking what I’m playing, a good sign. Also recently began working on David Garza’s new album. What to say about these songs….well, we’re approaching it as if it were done on a 4 track….sort of (my 4 track not working at the moment). Raw, honest, sparse and intimate, with some good old fashion rock n’roll to boot. The man, the myth, been a pleasure having him rock at LOS. Lots more to come about this project….

Three releases with production from LOS out this month. DC’s Funk Ark dropped their second album “High Noon” last Tuesday April 3rd. Adrian Younge vs. Adrian Quesada vinyl/digital EP comes out on Record Store Day on Ubiquity Records. You can stream a track (featuring the lovely Sonia Moore) here.

Lastly, Brownout drops their third full length LP on April 24th on Nat Geo Music. It was co-produced by myself and guitarist Beto Martinez and bassist Greg Gonzalez. In the meantime download this FREE EP of dub remixes of Brownout classics by ATX’s McPullish.

Recently had the honor of playing guitar on a new album by The Relatives, the amazing funky gospel group from Dallas, TX, now 40 years strong. Great session, great ATX musicians helping out, great shit all around. A few photos below:

Where to now? Wrapping up a collaboration with Adrian Younge to be released on 12″ vinyl for Record Store Day. Adrian released one of my favorite albums of 2011, the dusted, twisted and moody soul masterpiece “Something About April” so you know I’m stoked. Stay tuned….

Getting very close with what will likely be one of the best things I’ve ever worked on, the lovely miss Natalia Clavier’s 2nd album. She’s got some heavy hitters behind it as of late and we’re making sure to get this one right and help her make some big noise later this year. I’m DYING to play this for folks so stay tuned, as soon as I can I will.

SXSW is coming up of course and you can’t really beat this behemoth so just join it, I say…nice industry vacation and I get to catch up with folks I only see this time of year. Stay tuned as I’m sure I’ll inevitably be playing a whole bunch even though I say I won’t every year. I’m honored and thrilled to be musical director for this year’s Texas Film Hall of Fame Awards March 8th at the ACL Live/Moody Theater and we’ll have some surprises for sure on this one. Grupo Fantasma will be house band and we’ll have special guests Nakia and Suzanna Choffel.

Albumwise, 2012 will also see the release of our 3rd Brownout album on Nat Geo Records (April 10th). Check out a live sneak preview of a new song called “I Won’t Lie”. Maybe a new Echocentrics comes out, maybe a new Grupo Fantasma, maybe a new Ocote, we’ll see….every day I’m hustlin’.
