2012-Daniel Johnston, Natalia Clavier, etc

Happy 2012 to all (late pass)! Looking forward to another fun and productive year and wishing everyone the same. The year is already shaping up to be another busy one. I’ll be producing an EP for Daniel Johnston for a SXSW release and we hit the studio next week with my man Sammy P at the boards. Really looking forward to this one and it’s been fun even in the demo stages, can’t wait to get into it…it’s got a space theme by the way. I’m thinking Bruce Haack meets the Beatles, written by Daniel Johnston…or something like that.

Getting very close with what will likely be one of the best things I’ve ever worked on, the lovely miss Natalia Clavier’s 2nd album. She’s got some heavy hitters behind it as of late and we’re making sure to get this one right and help her make some big noise later this year. I’m DYING to play this for folks so stay tuned, as soon as I can I will.

SXSW is coming up of course and you can’t really beat this behemoth so just join it, I say…nice industry vacation and I get to catch up with folks I only see this time of year. Stay tuned as I’m sure I’ll inevitably be playing a whole bunch even though I say I won’t every year. I’m honored and thrilled to be musical director for this year’s Texas Film Hall of Fame Awards March 8th at the ACL Live/Moody Theater and we’ll have some surprises for sure on this one. Grupo Fantasma will be house band and we’ll have special guests Nakia and Suzanna Choffel.

Albumwise, 2012 will also see the release of our 3rd Brownout album on Nat Geo Records (April 10th). Check out a live sneak preview of a new song called “I Won’t Lie”. Maybe a new Echocentrics comes out, maybe a new Grupo Fantasma, maybe a new Ocote, we’ll see….every day I’m hustlin’.
